Book Group

The Holy Trinity Book Group meets every six to eight weeks in the Rectory. The books we read generally have a theological theme, and are usually contemporary literary fiction, with the odd volume of poetry thrown in for variety.

We certainly don’t have any rules about reading books only by authors with a Christian or other faith: the only requirement is that the book deal with issues that will give us plenty to talk about.

Our discussions are always lively, and new members are always welcome. Each meeting tends to be attended by around 8 to 12 people, and there’s no obligation to be there every time. We’re respectful of people’s time, and try not to select books which are too long.

Recent titles have included Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok, My Name Was Judas by CK Stead, Barabbas by Par Lagerkvist, and Given by Wendell Berry. We make a collective decision regarding the next book to read at the end of each meeting.
