Introit hymn
APPROACH TO GOD
I will go unto to the altar of God;
Even unto the God of my joy and gladness.
Our help is in the name of the Lord
Who hath made heaven and earth.
CONFESSION
We confess to God Almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost,
that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed,
through our own grievous fault.
Wherefore we pray God to have mercy upon us.
Almighty God have mercy upon us,
forgive us all our sins and deliver us from evil,
confirm and strengthen us in all goodness,
and bring us to life everlasting. Amen.
KYRIE
ABSOLUTION
May the Almighty and merciful Lord
grant unto you pardon and remission of all your sins,
time for true repentance, amendment of life,
and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
GLORIA - (omitted in Advent and Lent)
Glory be to God the Father;
Glory be to God the Son;
Glory to the Holy Spirit;
Ever three and ever one.
One in love and One in splendour
While eternal ages run.
RESPONSORY
Wilt thou not turn again and quicken us, O Lord;
that thy people may rejoice in thee?
O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us;
and grant us thy salvation.
Lord, hear our prayer;
and let our cry come unto thee.
Let us pray:
COLLECT FOR PURITY
Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open,
all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love thee,
and worthily magnify thy holy Name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

FIRST READING (Deuteronomy 30: 15-20)
A reading from the book of Deuteronomy
See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God* that I am commanding you today, by loving the Lord your God, walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees, and ordinances, then you shall live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you do not hear, but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall perish; you shall not live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and holding fast to him; for that means life to you and length of days, so that you may live in the land that the Lord swore to give to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
ends with:
This is the word of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Response
SECOND READING (Psalm 1)
A reading from the Book of Palms
Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of the scornful;
but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
Everything they do, shall prosper.
It is not so with the wicked,
they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
ends with:
This is the word of the Lord
Thanks be to God.
GRADUAL HYMN
GOSPEL (Luke 14:25-33)
Hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke
When the Gospel is announced:
Glory to Christ our Saviour.
Now large crowds were travelling with him; and he turned and said to them, ‘Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, saying, “This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.” Or what king, going out to wage war against another king, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes against him with twenty thousand? If he cannot, then, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for the terms of peace. So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions.
At the end:
Give thanks unto the Lord for his glorious Gospel
Praise to Christ our Lord.
SERMON
THE NICENE CREED
I believe in one God
the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And of all things visible and invisible:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
Begotten of his Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God,
Begotten, not made,
Being of one substance with the Father,
By whom all things were made:
Who for us men, and for our salvation came down from heaven,
And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary,
And was made man,
And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered and was buried,
And the third day he rose again
according to the Scriptures,
And ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of the Father.
And he shall come again with glory
to judge both the quick and the dead:
Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost,
The Lord, The Giver of life,
Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son,
Who with the Father and the Son together
is worshipped and glorified,
Who spake by the Prophets.
And I believe One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins.
And I look for the resurrection of the dead,
And the life of the world to come.
Amen.
INTERCESSIONS
PEACE
We meet in Christ’s name.
Let us share his peace.
OFFERTORY PROPER
OFFERTORY HYMN
The Liturgy of the Sacrament
PRAYERS OF OFFERING
Blessed be thou, O Lord God, for ever and ever.
Thine, O Lord, is the greatness,
and the glory,
and the victory,
and the majesty:
for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine:
thine is the Kingdom, O Lord,
and thou art exalted as head above all:
all things come of thee,
and of thine own do we give unto thee.
Amen.
The Lord be with you.
And with thy spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up unto the Lord.
Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
It is meet and right so to do.
It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty,
that we should at all times, and in all places,
give thanks unto thee, O Lord,
Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God.
(a seasonal preface for Creationtide)
And now we give thee thanks
because all things are of thy making,
all times and seasons obey thy laws,
but you have chosen to create us in thine own image,
setting us over the whole world in all its wonder.
Thou hast made us stewards of thy creation,
to praise thee day by day
for the marvels of thy wisdom and power:
Therefore with Angels and Archangels,
and with all the company of heaven,
we laud and magnify thy glorious Name;
evermore praising thee and singing:
SANCTUS
All glory and thanksgiving be to thee,
Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
for that thou of thy tender mercy
didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ
to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption;
who, by his own oblation of himself once offered,
made a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice,
oblation, and satisfaction,
for the sins of the whole world;
and did institute,
and in his holy Gospel command us to continue,
a perpetual memorial of that his precious death and sacrifice until his coming again.
For, in the night that he was betrayed, he took bread;
and when he had given thanks, he brake it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying,
Take, eat, this is my Body, which is given for you:
Do this in remembrance of me.
Likewise after supper he took the cup;
and when he had given thanks,
he gave it to them, saying,
Drink ye all of this,
for this is my Blood of the new testament,
which is shed for you and for many
for the remission of sins:
Do this as oft as ye shall drink it in remembrance of me.
Wherefore, O Lord, and heavenly Father,
according to the institution of thy dearly beloved Son
our Saviour Jesus Christ,
we thy humble servants do celebrate
and make here before thy Divine Majesty,
with these thy holy gifts,
which we now offer unto thee,
the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to make;
having in remembrance his blessed passion,
and precious death,
his mighty resurrection, and glorious ascension;
rendering unto thee most hearty thanks
for the innumerable benefits procured unto us by the same,
and looking for his coming again with power and great glory.
And we thine unworthy servants beseech thee,
most merciful Father,
to hear us,
and to send thy Holy Spirit upon us
and upon these thy gifts and creatures of bread and wine,
that, being blessed and hallowed by his life-giving power,
they may become the Body and Blood
of thy most dearly beloved Son,
to the end that all who shall receive the same
may be sanctified both in body and soul,
and preserved unto everlasting life.
And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness,
mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.
And here we humbly offer and present unto thee,
O Lord,
ourselves, our souls and bodies,
to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice unto thee,
beseeching thee to accept this our bounden duty and service,
not weighing our merits,
but pardoning our offences,
through Jesus Christ our Lord:
by whom, and with whom,
in the unity of the Holy Ghost,
all honour and glory be unto thee,
O Father Almighty, world without end.
Amen.
FRACTION
The bread is broken in silence.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
As our Saviour Christ hath commanded and taught us,
we are bold to say,
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.
AGNUS DEI
PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS.
We do not presume
to come to this thy Holy Table,
O merciful Lord,
trusting in our own righteousness,
but in thy manifold and great mercies.
We are not worthy
so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table:
but thou art the same Lord,
whose property is always to have mercy.
Grant us therefore, gracious Lord,
so to eat the Flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ,
and to drink his Blood,
that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his most sacred Body,
and our souls washed through his most precious Blood,
and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.
COMMUNION CHANT
Thanksgiving and sending out
O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is gracious.
And his mercy endureth for ever.
Let us pray.
THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
The following or some other seasonal prayer may be said:
O Lord our God, thou Saviour of the world,
through whom we have celebrated these Holy Mysteries:
receive our humble thanksgiving,
and of thy great mercy
vouchsafe to sanctify us evermore in body and soul;
who livest and reignest
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
Amen.
BLESSING
DISMISSAL
Go forth in peace.
Thanks be to God.
