Vintage Film season underway

October 25, 2015

Holy Trinity's vintage film club has started its new season, with a family comedy and a Cold War spy classic lined up for October and November.

On Saturday October 31 there will be a showing of Genevieve, the popular 1953 British comedy starring John Gregson, Dinah Sheridan, Kenneth More and Kay Kendall as two couples involved in a veteran automobile rally.  Genevieve won the BAFTA Award for Best British Film and Bosley Crowther, film reviewer for The New York Times, gave it a very positive critique, saying:  "On the strength of the current mania that some restless people have for automobiles of ancient vintage—what are fondly called "veteran cars"—a British producer-director, Henry Cornelius, has made a film that may cautiously be recommended as one of the funniest farce comedies in years."

In November, The Third Man, considered to be one of the greatest films of all time, will keep you enthralled on Saturday November 28.  The Third Man is a 1949 British-American film noir, directed by Carol Reed and starring Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Orson Welles and Trevor Howard. It is celebrated for its acting, musical score and atmospheric cinematography.  Written by Graham Greene, The Third Man is an essential classic, made even more so by the insistent zither music of Anton Karas.

Both showings will be in the Trinity Centre, starting at 7.30pm.  All are welcome and admission is by donation.
